FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What documents do I need for import clearance?
Standard import documents include: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading or transport document, Certificate of Origin, and any applicable permits. Vehicles also need the export certificate and title. We'll advise on the exact requirements for your specific cargo type and origin at the consultation stage.
How are duties and taxes calculated?
Zambia follows the Harmonized System (HS) for tariff classification. Duties are calculated on the CIF value (Cost + Insurance + Freight) of your goods, using the applicable tariff rate for the commodity's HS code, with VAT applied on top. COMESA and SADC preferential rates may reduce or eliminate duty if your goods qualify under the relevant rules of origin — we advise on what applies to your shipment.
Which borders do you operate at?
Kazungula, Chirundu and Nakonde — Zambia's three major border posts. If your route runs through a different entry point, tell us and we'll advise on how we can help.
How long does customs clearance take?
It depends on the completeness of your documentation and how busy the border post is on the day. Complete, correct paperwork submitted early is the single biggest factor in a fast clearance — send us your documents as soon as you have them and we'll give you a realistic timeframe for your specific shipment.
Can you handle time-sensitive shipments?
Yes — the earlier you tell us and the more complete your documents are, the faster we can move on your behalf. Let us know a shipment is time-sensitive as soon as possible so we can prioritize accordingly.
